LEICA
R9
Black Chrome or Grey Anthracite - $3,595 ($3,795 July 1)

Almost 4 ounces lighter than the Leica R8 thanks to a new magnesium alloy
top plate and aluminum baseplate, the Leica R9 features a new LCD exposure
counter on the top plate and an expanded, illuminated LCD panel on the
camera back that displays all current settings, including ISO (even when
using DX coding), exposure compensation, exposure number and battery status.
The Leica R9 also employs a new, more sophisticated multi-pattern exposure
metering system with levels that can be calibrated in tenth-stop increments
over a +0.7 to -0.7 EV range. The superb, high-eyepoint viewfinder now
indicates shooting aperture in ¼ stop steps for zoom lenses whose
aperture varies with focal length, and the exposure mode selector is now
lockable to prevent inadvertent switching from one mode to another. Finally,
the Leica R9 allows high speed flash synchronization up to 1/8000th second
for optimal fill-flash performance when used in tandem with HSS flash
units such as the new Metz 54 MZ3 or later, with Leica-dedicated SCA 3502 M3 or later adapter.

Where two descriptions are given, the accent should be given to the
first one. Some liberty is taken in describing older cameras and lenses,
particularly those that are black painted.
