             With the new digital Leica M8 camera, virtually all Leica M lenses will produce the superb image quality Leica users expect. But Leica now has a way to make many Leica lenses perform even better with the new digital camera.

             All new Leica M lenses now feature a 6-bit, black and white “bar code” on their bayonet mounts. Reading this code, the Leica M8 will tailor its image processing to the particular optical characteristics of the lens in use, especially important in compensating for the varying degrees of vignetting inherent in each different lens design.   In flash mode, the 6-bit code will also control pre-flash output.
